Josie says it’s a bit like if someone
you love dies and there are always some

people who think they’ll say the wrong
thing. They won’t come and see you or

even talk to you much. It can be like that if
someone you love has a mental illness.

Some people don’t know what to say so
they keep away.

Josie says “Always just be yourself”.
So, that’s how I’m going to be from now
on. No more imagining people won’t

understand. Some will. Some won’t. So

what? No more thinking I need to keep
away from people just in case they don’t
understand or just in case they say

something horrible.

Emma, from school, has been

wanting to know where I am and why I
don’t want to meet up. I’ve been saying

I’m away. It’s true I am. On the other side
of town. But next time I’m going to text her

say the truth about Mum being in hospital
and me being with a foster family. I’ll say
