The friends decide to give Al a second
chance and soon he becomes a friend
too. They realise that three of them
have something difficult happening in
their lives: Gary and Lauren have a
parent who has a mental illness, Gary
is a young carer. Not everyone is going
to know what that is like. But they are
not alone. They have each other and
maybe everyone has something
difficult going on at some time.
Lauren:
Gary and I sat up talking for an hour
last night. First we talked about our
parents and what it’s like when they get ill
like ours do and how hard it is not
knowing many people who know what
that’s like. Gary’s Dad is miles better. I
reckon Gary will be able to go home with
his Dad soon.
As for me, Mum’s getting there too.
Today’s visit was good. She wanted to
know how everything was, how I was,
